Begone! Nefarious bearer of cold weather!

"Quick Elly! Take a photo of me and the Australian dude!"Humf arrive safe and sleep-deprived last night. Elly has accused him of bringing the wonderfully cold and wet weather from Tassie – does that sound right? How’s the weather since he left? All we know is, as soon as Humf left the Antipodes our weather went from a week of balmy 20-25 degree days to a bitterly cold, wet and windy 8-9 degrees C.

Check out Humf’s blog for regular and fascinating updates on his impressions of Istanbul and Bulgaria (not to put the pressure on or anything).

The plan this week:

- CHILL OUT (why? Mainly because Elly and I finished our huge 12-week term yesterday and we’re tired!);

- Give Humf a good idea of what Haskovo is like (because even though Haskovo isn’t “impressive” compared to the big European cities, it’s so different to Australia that the novelty of it makes normal things fun!);

- Give Humf a taste of what we do every day (eg. he’s coming with us to the birthday party of our language helper’s son this evening in the mahalle; we’ll drag him along to a Millet church meeting on Sunday and a Turkish lesson on Monday; Dave and Rob are thinking up something “culturally challenging” for Humf to possibly be involved in…);

- Lastly, we’ll be thinking about what we want to do for the rest of the time we’re all on holidays (visiting the Nairns in Romania is much more appealing since they announced that it’s been snowing this week! Going to Cappadocia in Turkey sounds awesome too).

That’s all for now.

Cheers,

Stu.

ps. Here’s a photo (showcasing the weather!) I just took from our balcony – click on it for a bigger version!

You are so rude closing comments and pings on both the census and Felix before I can comment :-(

You are both insane and crazy, and we’re all looking forward to you coming back to Ausland soon so we can catch up and you can spend some time with the nieces/nephew!

James, James! Try it now! I’ve unblocked the comments for those posts for a bonus 3-4 days! (That’s an automatic feature to cut down on spam, by the way :P ). We’d be very happy to hear from Felix and family!

Great to hear from you guys, Steve and Marie!

Cheers
Stu.

So first you’re complaining about the cold weather, then getting excited about going to see snow? You do realise snow is cold don’t you? :P

Have a great break! Enjoy the weather, hot chocolates are made for such weather. :D

haha, true true, but snow is cold with benefits ;)

Stu claims he wrote the title in my voice and didn’t complain in the actual post. It did get really cold quite suddenly and the fact that it feels like Tassie winter in the middle of autumn only further indicates that we are nowhere near prepared for actual winter.

Brr.

Poor Humf missed out on seeing proper Bulgarian life as everyone is already starting to hibernate. He’s enjoying himself enough, it’s good to have someone to show around and get you re-excited about things!

Apart from a short downpour or two, yesterday was really quite hot in Launnie. Well, BOM says it only got to 18, but it felt pretty hot in the sun!

Glad to hear Humf got to you safely, hope you have a great time together. :D

To reinforce the weather is sort of improving here (Tassie) – I got sunburn when I went for an 8k run last Saturday in Longford. And this Saturday, we had clear blue skies for breakfast and a walk in the gorge – more sunburn! So what you should have asked was for Humf to bring the warmer weather with him!

(of course I neglect to mention that the rain shower on Thursday afternoon as I was leaving work was the most severe I have seen since moving to Tassie… Reminded me of tropical Queensland!)

Hi Stu
great to hear that Humph arrived safely and that you now have some time off to rest and explore – its good timing!! Hope you got yr vegemite?
we are enjoying your blogging and also following Humph’s journal as he is the pioneer visitor!!
Dad has just been to Bendigo to meet Felix and catch up with me – he went home yesterday and is being taxi driver for Joey who has a cataract op today!
I have another 2 weeks here, and one of my tasks is to read the Eyewitness Travel guide to Bulgaria (apart from lots of cooking, washing, dressing, playing, gardening, cleaning, cuddling etc)
love to you both – we miss you lots!!
